Striker Asamoah Gyan has been appointed as Ghana’s tourism ambassador to help promote the country’s tourism sector abroad. The UAE-based attacker has opted not to take any payments to promote his country.

The 2010 World Cup hero will use his huge international profile to serve his country in another capacity for free.

The Al Ain man, who is also famed for his music, will attend international tourism events to promote the industry in Ghana. Gyan will also use his travel on club and international matches to promote the Ghana brand and tourism sector.

The tourism ministry believes the in-form Al Ain goal poacher is the right person to be used to rebrand and market Ghana on the international tourism market. ”This appointment entails marketing and promoting Ghana through football as a renowned Ghanaian striker at international arena,” Ghana’s tourism minister Akua Sena Dansua said in the appointment letter.

“It is the expectation of the Ministry that you will accept this appointment to be of service to the Nation and to bring your huge international exposure to promote tourism in Ghana.”

Gyan was delighted to be named as the country’s tourism ambassador insisting he will serve his country in any capacity. ”I am very very happy to be named to be Ghana’s tourism ambassador. I have served my country on the football pitch and now I get the chance to serve in another field,” Gyan said. ”I am ready to serve my country anytime and I will use my image to promote Ghana tourism anywhere in the world.”

Apart from his heroics at the 2010 World Cup and 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, Gyan’s image continued to soar after featuring in in hiplife artiste Castro’s hit single African Girls.

The 26-year-old, nicknamed Baby Jet, is also revered for his ‘Azonto’ dance goal celebrations.
