Established in 1971, Kogyae, which has an area of 386 sq. km is located in a transitional semi-deciduous forest zone with tracts of open woodland and grassland.
This includes the west bank of the lower Volta River estuary and the Songor lagoon. The lagoon is a shallow dosed one with a surface area of bout 115 km2.
